H5N1 detected on turkey farm in Israel

On a turkey farm in the Israelian village Gush Etzion (South of Jeruzalem), H5N1 has been detected, and over 40,000 turkeys will be culled.

The farm consist of 3 barns, each housing 14,000 birds. In one of the barns the bird flu virus has been found in 14 week old turkeys.

In the other 2 barns, 6 week old turkeys or 4 day old turkeys are kept. The first symptoms were seen on March 5th. On March 7th, it was confirmed that the birds were infected with the H5N1 virus.
