Hungarians leaders in egg consumption

03-10-2007 | | |

Hungarians consume more eggs than most countries, with an annual 300 eggs per capita. This is well over the global average, says a senior Poultry Council official.

Farmers in Hungary produce 2.75 billion eggs per year to generate revenue of 25 billion forints (€100 million). Approximately 1.2 billion eggs are sold through the major retail chains, 20% of which is made up of imports.
Additionally, Hungary’s stock of egg-laying hens has come close to 13 million.
