The future of the Dutch poultry industry can be found in creating a slower growing broiler, but with superior growth compared to organic broilers or the French ‘Label rouge’ birds. A team of specialists in poultry and consumer welfare suggested this in an advice to the Minister of Agriculture. Reasons enough for the Spelderholt Institute to conduct a trial to evaluate the consequences of a switch to a slower growing broiler.
