The methionine salt of hydroxybutyric acid is commonly used as a methionine source. As its name suggests, however, not only does it satisfy the requirements of this essential amino acid, but by replacing the nitrogen in the methionine model, it has potential as an organic acid – and all the associated effects in controlling bacterial pathogens.
