More eggs set in US hatcheries
The number of broiler eggs set in the United States is up 2% from last year.
According to figures from the USDA, hatcheries in the United States weekly programme set 219 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 10 December 2016, up 2% from a year ago.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the United States was 84%. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
The number of broiler-type chicks placed in the United States is up 1% from last year. Broiler growers in the United States weekly programme placed 179 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 10 December 2016.
Cumulative placements from the week ending 9 January 2016 through 10 December 2016 for the United States were 8.67 billion. Cumulative placements were up 1% from the same period a year earlier.
