Philippines lifts Australian poultry import ban

The Philippines Department of Agriculture has lifted a ban imposed on poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen from Australia.

The ban was ordered by the secretary of the department of agriculture, Proceso Alcala, in January when Australia submitted a report to the OIE detailing the occurrence of low pathogenic avian flu in Melbourne, Victoria.

In a memorandum dated April 4, the ban on Australia’s wild and domestic poultry products was lifted since the risk of contamination of local livestock was deemed to have receded, posing no further risk.

The Philippines currently has similar poultry bans in place on the importation of wild and domestic poultry from Taiwan and from the province of Limburg, the Netherlands.
