The Philipinnes have imposed a ban on imports of Chinese poultry products flowing an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

According to local reports, more than 100,000 birds have been culled in the in Heibei province area as a precautionary measure.

The Philippine embargo issued by Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, covers all domestic and wild birds as well as eggs and even semen from poultry originating in China.

At all major ports, veterinary inspectors were instructed by the department to stop all shipments of poultry meat and related products from China. The ban is temporary but no date has been given for it to be lifted.
