Russia: Poultry meat production rises while eggs fall

In January-September 2014 the production of poultry for slaughter in live weight in all categories of farms in Russia increased by 5.7% compared with the same period of last year, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture has stated.

The volume of poultry meat production in the period amounted to 3.913 million tonnes

The production of eggs during the same period fell by 0.8% compared with the results of January-September 2013 – to 31.382 billion pieces, while 24 billion pieces have been produced in the industrial agricultural organisations.

The level of self-sufficiency in the domestic Russian poultry meat market now reaches 89%. According to experts, in the coming years, further growth of the industry will depend on the ability to establish export supplies.

Commenting on these indicators, Vladimir Labin, director of Animal Husbandry and Breeding added that in 2014 the main growth volumes of the poultry industry has been provided by Kursk, Tambov and Chelyabinsk Oblasts, as well as the Republic of Mari El.

The most rapid increase in the production of eggs has been observed in Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Voronezh and Bryansk Oblasts.
