Russia sees steady growth in the poultry industry

The number of poultry in Russia reached 504.8 million heads as of July 1, 2012, compared to 473.7 last year. In January-June 2012 the total output of poultry farms of all categories was 2,296,000 tonnes of poultry. Last year the figure was 14.9% lower.

The sector continues to show positive dynamics. Compared with last year the volume of poultry slaughter in the current year rate fell only in the Far Eastern Federal District.

The main production capacities of the country is still concentrated in the Central District – 850,000 tonnes. In the Volga Federal District the volume of production rose to 362,000 tonnes. In the North Caucasus Federal District it rose by 35,000 tonnes to 145,900 tonnes, the Southern Federal District saw a rise of 32,000 tonnes to 267,700 tonnes. The Northwest Federal District rose 23,390 tonnes to 237,100 tonnes. In the Urals Federal District production rose by 23,230 tonnes to 194,500 tonnes, while the Siberian Federal District saw a 21,000 tonnes rise up to 204,500 tonnes.

The average price of poultry in Russia rose by 1.2% last month. Since the beginning of this year, the total increase in price for poultry was 1.1% compared to the previous year, although the current price is 1.3% lower.

The rise in price has been due to high demand in the market, as well as rising prices for feed. In June 2012 the average price of feed for poultry rose by 3.8% to 11.25 rubles/kg (US$ 0.3). Since the beginning of this year the growth rate amounted to 5.9%.
