Thailand aims to become halal-food hub

Industry Minister Chaiwuti Bannawat has asked the National Food Institute (NFI) to formulate strategies amed at raising the current value of halal-food exports from Bhat 80 bln a year to Baht 100 bln within 5 years.

The strategy is to cover product quality, certification, marketing capability, scientific development and enhancement of competitiveness, aimed at turning Thailand into a halal-food center.

The NFI, he says, will work in conjunction with other ministries, such as Agriculture and Commerce, and receive a budget of Baht 4 bln for the task.
