“This week, daily national sales of standard whole birds are running approximately 7% above the November 2007 daily average,” according to a Tesco spokesperson.
Chefs Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall have highlighted the differences between standard and free range chickens.
Leading supermarket chains Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda have reported a minor increase in all chicken sales.
