Ukraine clear to export poultry to Europe

Ukraine has finished negotiations with EU veterinary authorities and soon will be sending its first shipments of poultry to Europe – reported the chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers of Ukraine Alexander Bakumenko.

According to Bakumenko, the first deliveries will begin in October or November of this year.

“All procedural questions have been resolved. The EU Commission has made a decision. Currently we are carrying out last negotiations with WTO, and we hope that in October-November, Ukraine will be opened as the third country for supplies of poultry production to Europe. First of all we will deliver an egg powder, and also poultry – most likely fillet,”   said Bakumenko.

“In 2013 we plan to export 100,000 tonnes of poultry meat to the Customs Union, and about 20,000-30,000 tonnes, we will try to export to Europe,” he added.

Bakumenko also pointed out that one of the main difficulties in supplying Europe with poultry meat is that it has not yet signed a free trade agreement.

Bakumenko also said that as yet, Ukraine’s veterinary service has not received a list of companies accredited to supply the Customs Union with poultry. At the moment only MHP Company has the right to export its products to Russia, which exports some 30,000 tonnes of poultry per year. Now, however, two other Ukraine companies are waiting for the decision of Veterinary Services of Russia on a similar issue.
