In Ukraine’s Crimea region, several people have fallen ill with Salmonella as a result of eating contaminated poultry meat.
Several batches of contaminated products were seized in multiple warehouses in Alushta – according to preliminary report of the regional veterinary services it was about two tonnes of chicken.
Doctors in the region have recommend consumers to completely refuse to buy chicken until the investigation of the veterinary services is completed. As a result of this incident the whole poultry industry of Crimea region was paralysed – in the near future a significant decline in sales is projected, which could result in some producers stopping their output.
“At Dnipropetrovsk poultry complex, where the poisoned chicken was produced, everything is fine, they presented a quality certificate. But from there the production has been delivered to the warehouses of Simferopol. But where and how the meat has been infected is still not known. Soon we will figure out who delivered this production to the regional markets. The situation is being investigated by veterinarians” the press service of the governor of the region reported.
In the near future a special inspection group to check of the production process at the Dnepropetrovsk poultry complex will be organised. Veterinarians should know whether the contamination could happen here or not. At the same time is still not clear – in what other regions the infected production could have been delivered.
