Poultry production in Ukraine increased by 9% in 2010, according to a report by Oleksandr Bakumenko, chairman of the board of directors of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine association.
“We have increased by 9% on the previous year. 1.25 million tonnes were produced in live weight, and meat output was about 965 thousand tonnes,” Bakumenko said. “Ukraine currently produces about 24 kg of chicken per capita,” he adds.
Ukrainian poultry farmers are also counting on the expansion of exports of meat in 2011. In particular, negotiations are underway to penetrate the markets of Asian countries, says Bakumenko.
“Global exports of poultry meat make about 8 million tonnes, of which Brazil and the US account for 3 million tonnes each. These are the two major exporters working on almost all markets. But we are absolutely competitive with them both in price and quality terms,” he said.
