US poultry farmer expands by adding new feed mill

At Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch’s Henry facility in Saranac, Michigan, USA, a new feed mill is being constructed to make it easier and more convenient to feed the roughly 2.5 million chickens.

Herb Herbruck, of Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, explained that the new feed mill, once constructed, will make conventional and organic feed for the hens at the Henry facility and the Green Meadow Organic facility.

“The Henry (facility feed) currently is being made at the Main Farm on Grand River (Avenue),” said Herbruck.

“This will divert that feed from being made on Grand River, and being trucked from the Main Farm to what we call the Henry.”

The new feed mill will take away from the transporting costs, and also make it more convenient for the hens. “It takes a big part of the transportation out of it, and it is made where it is consumed – from the feed mill to the hen houses,” said Herbruck.

All the ingredients for the organic and conventional feeds will also be received at the new feed mill, which will produce roughly 500 to 600 tonnes a day of organic and conventional feed for roughly four million hens at both facilities.
