US: Poultry plant shut by federal officials

02-08-2010 | | |

The doors of a Sullivan County poultry processing plant have been closed, with food safety issues cited.

Murray’s Chicken was told to close its doors by the US department of Agriculture; however details concerning the closure have not been made apparent.

Warned by Agriculture Department
Prior to this incident, Murray’s Chicken had been made aware of the Agriculture Department’s concern around the plant’s ‘capacity to control contaminants’, said a report. However, the plant’s vice president, Steve Murray, stated that it passed a test for salmonella in July this year.

35,000 chickens are processed at the plant daily.
