Poultry meat and eggs have met the demand from the Vietnamese population of 100 million people, and the country is now gearing to expand on exports.
Now that demand for poultry from the local market has been met, it was noted at a recently held meeting of the Vietnam Poultry Association that Vietnamese poultry businesses are seeking ways to expand their reach to foreign markets like Myanmar, Japan, Hong Kong, and Russia.
The national poultry flocks have increased from 100 million in 2010 to 530 million in 2020, the Vietnam Plus reported Nguyen Song Thao, deputy director of the Personnel Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as saying. Poultry meat production has also seen a significant increase from 600,000 mt to 1.4 million mt over the past 10 years. Furthermore, the output of eggs reached 14 billion in 2020, up from 6 billion a decade ago.
Poultry market outlook recovers, national differences remain
After a very challenging quarter, the outlook for the global poultry industry is gradually improving, although poultry trade remains very competitive.
Large-scale poultry farms have been formed and have been equipped with modern, cutting-edge technologies, he said, and according to VIPA president, Nguyen Thanh Son, despite the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the sector invested in some chicken farms and slaughterhouses that are among the most modern in Southeast Asia. He said that progress has also been made in the production of poultry feed, medicines and vaccines, and added that the association will support businesses in exporting poultry breeds, processed meat, eggs, medicines and feed.
