Against this backdrop, Miavit, for 60 years now, has strived to develop innovative products that benefit animal health. The company was founded by Dr Hans W. Niemeyer in 1964 based on the guiding principle of “Prevention instead of medication”, which has been the inspiration for the company’s actions ever since. With its sustainable products, the family-owned business seeks to counteract the increasing use of antibiotics and place the focus on animal health. As a partner in the fields of feed, additives, minerals and vitamins, the company stands for early investments in health-promoting and species-appropriate animal husbandry with a diverse and high-quality product range.
Modern production sites
Today, the company has 4 modern production sites worldwide, where high standards and highly qualified employees ensure that a high-quality product range can be offered in powder, liquid and paste form. Overall, the company has diversified over the years, and through international production sites and efficient planning it can help to shorten transport routes and significantly reduce emissions. In addition, whenever practicable, the raw materials and packaging required for production are sourced from regional suppliers, to likewise make this area of the production chain as environmentally friendly as possible. Last but not least, constant investments in our own production facilities enable resource-saving and energy-efficient production through state-of-the-art and innovative technology. In this way, the company strives to continuously improve environmental protection and is determined to live up to its responsibility in the field of sustainability.
Improved feed efficiency
In modern animal nutrition, it is essential to use nutrients precisely. A more efficient feed utilisation leads to a good economic outcome, but also to resource-saving feeding. In feed technology, it is very common to improve feed efficiency through thermal treatment, as these improve the digestibility of nutrients and also have a positive effect on feed intake.
However, good intestinal health is also essential for achieving advantageous feed consumption. From the perspective of animal nutrition, there are also helpful tools that can favourably influence intestinal health. For example, nature provides a variety of molecules that have a supportive effect on intestinal health. Good examples of these include phytogenic products such as Miarom Intest C or trace elements such as MiaTrace Zn. Both products are protected by a coating so that they are not modified by the stomach acid and find their way into the small intestine of the animals undamaged. The coating process used by Miavit is not a matrix coating process, but a fluidised bed process. This allows gentle process temperatures and a more complete coating, with higher contents of active ingredients. Thanks to this targeted technique, the active ingredients can exert their full effect and are utilised more efficiently. For example, livestock can be fed with lower amounts of zinc than before and still achieve the desired effects on the stabilisation of intestinal health or bioavailability. In addition, the coating also protects the active ingredients from thermal treatment, as for example phytogenic additives can be very sensitive to thermal effects. Such innovative coating technology not only protects the quality of the active ingredients in the feed, but also ensures that they reach their targeted site of action in the animals’ intestines.

Through these and other measures, the company promotes sustainability and welfare at the level of animal nutrition as well. In addition to sustainability work in its own company and the development of innovative products for the benefit of animal health, the company has recently also become involved in a leading non-profit organisation called “Tierärzte ohne Grenzen e.V.” (Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany). In line with Miavit’s guiding principle “Prevention instead of medication “, the non-profit association is committed to improving animal health and promoting sustainable agriculture, providing valuable humanitarian aid through the organisation. The organisation’s commitment and the associated promotion of animal health across big parts of East Africa is an important step towards improving living conditions and health for local communities. The cooperation between the non-profit association and Miavit goes beyond mere financial support. Thanks to the company’s expertise in the field of animal nutrition, the two organisations can share knowledge and in this way improve the lives of many worldwide.
