Indonesia: Smuggled broiler carcasses from Malaysia intercepted

The animal husbandry and animal health agency of Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province recently confiscated 290 kg of frozen broiler carcass which were smuggled from Malaysia to Pontianak and Kubu Raya.

Head of the animal husbandry and animal health agency of West Kalimantan province, Abdul Manaf Mustafa said that the vehicle which was used to carry the illegal frozen broiler carcasses was arrested by local policeman in Kubu Raya on Friday. “Now the illegal frozen broiler carcasses are being tested in laboratory. The safety status is questioned because it has no health certificate,” he said.

The chairman of poultry agribusiness association of West Kalimantan province, Bambang Mulyantono added that the illegal frozen broiler carcasses from Malaysia had damaged the poultry trade in West Kalimantan. He continued, this poultry product smuggling from Malaysia has happened many times, not only frozen broiler carcass, but also egg and duck carcass. These smugglings mainly entered Indonesia through an illegal border gate between Indonesia and Malaysia.
