A Midlands-based poultry business is eyeing up part of French integrator Doux Poultry’s business, according to documents submitted to Rennes Commercial Court.

Chesterfield Poultry, which specialises in halal chicken, has made an offer to take over Doux’s Vendée abattoir in Chantonnay.

The bid covers all assets, employees on permanent contracts, a hatchery and 85 farms, and an animal nutrition factory, according to newspaper Oest France.

The facility specialises in frozen poultry produced for export, and has reportedly been overlooked by European poultry integrator LDC and Ukrainian agri-business MHP, which have both been linked with takeover attempts for the broader business.

In total, 8 companies have expressed interest in a takeover of the French poultry firm.

Doux Poultry, once one of Europe’s largest poultry integrators, filed for liquidation earlier this year following years of financial difficulties.
