More than £7,000 has been raised for Papworth Hospital following the annual charity clay shoot in Suffolk, which this year attracted a record attendance.
There were 35 teams and 140 people from across the UK poultry sector taking part in the clay shoot at the High Lodge shooting range, near Saxmundham.
John Vincent, Cobb Europe director quality assurance, said the event – now in its 8th year – had become an annual fixture in the industry calendar: “The event goes from strength to strength and we are really pleased that so many people from all sectors of the poultry industry were able to join us for such an enjoyable and worthwhile day.
The winners were GW Padley Poultry, with the winning team of field manager James Padley, Richard Padley, Tom Beevor and Toby Tibenham scoring 351 out of 400 in the 4-man, 100-bird team flushes.
They pipped Chapman’s into second place, which also included the individual winner Eric Chapman, who scored 78 in the 84-bird sporting layout, while Avara Foods took the bronze position
James Padley said the company was delighted to support the Cobb Charity shoot again this year and help raise as much money for Papworth: “Our team was genuinely surprised to lift the winning trophy but really thrilled to have seen off some stiff competition on the day. We’ll certainly enjoy defending the title next year.”
A new trophy was introduced this year in memory of Steve Graham, Cobb health and safety and transport manager, who died earlier this year. The trophy was won by C.E. Davidson, which was also the principal sponsor of the 2018 event
