Consumption of poultry meat in the UK overall dropped last year, despite the small net rise in production.
The level of consumption, measured as supplies reaching the market, fell back by 63,000 tonnes, or 3%, to 2.01 mt. Although output had risen 13,600 tonnes, imports dropped by 24,000t while exports rose by 53,000t, compared with 2016, according to Defra. In the final quarter, supplies were down 6% and domestic output was down 5% year-on-year.
