MARKETS: Meat price pressure
Smithfield prices for fresh chicken took a tumble at the end of October, where previously prices had been making good progress.
All weight bands were affected, although it was more marked in the heavier weights. “There appears to be a substantial amount of large, 1700g-plus, Italian fresh chicken coming onto the market which has upset the home trade,” said analyst Graham Jackman at J Fortescue.
