New egg brand Purely Organic has become the first in the UK to display the Climate Partner logo.
The company, launched earlier this year, has joined forces with moulded fibre packaging firm Hartmann to produce a product that is carbon neutral. The production of the boxes will offset the emissions generated through production processes and transport.
Ian Singleton, from Hartmann, said the issue of sustainable packaging had risen to the top of the news agenda: “Purely Organic are showing themselves to be sustainable pioneers by being the first UK egg brand to support our Climate Partner programme, delivering an entirely carbon neutral pack.”
It has also launched a 10 pack at Tesco stores nationwide and online, having originally launched in Nisa stores. The eggs are also available via Amazon Fresh and are supplied by Noble Foods.
The expansion is part of a move to tap into growing consumer demand for organic product and the trend towards larger egg pack sizes. Organic is the second fastest growing egg type and is now valued at £67.4m following a surge in value terms of 13.1% last year.
Purely Organic is a collection of 6 family run farms with hens foraging among fruit trees and feed sourced from a single organic mill ensuring traceability. The RSP is £2.10 for half a dozen eggs and £2.80 for 10.
