The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have published a scientific opinion on Novus International’s Cibenza EP150 feed additive as a zootechnical feed additive. The authority has concluded the product is safe for target animals, consumers and the environment. It is also effective to enhance the performance of chickens for fattening, chickens reared for laying and other avian species used for meat production, when a reduced protein diet is provided.
The feed additive contains a protease enzyme produced by fermentation of a single strain of naturally-occurring Bacillus licheniformis in combination with spores of the production strain. Formulating diets with the additive will allow producers to enhance the digestibility of a broad range of protein sources, thereby allowing flexibility in their utilisation and reduction of dietary protein level.
