The central theme of the hybrid seminar ‘Health & Nutrition’ is how the poultry industry can achieve a healthier flock by ensuring each bird maintains a healthy and balanced gut, and that each receives all the necessary nutrients it requires.
The speakers, who are experts in their field, addressed:
Introducing the theme was Maarten De Gussem, DVM, who is a global poultry consultant at Vetworks and also attached to the University of Ghent in Belgium. His presentation is called ‘A vet’s perspective on gut health and antibiotic reduction’.
On behalf of animal nutrition company, Perstorp, Dr Antonia Tacconi addressed the theme of gut health and the role of short-chain fatty acids. As the company’s global product manager of gut health, she discussed butyric and valeric acids and their effect on animal performance.
Proteon Pharmaceuticals is well known for the development of phages. On behalf of this Polish company, Prof Jarosław Dastych, the company’s CEO and founder, gave insights into bacteriophages and how they can play a role in the reduction of antibiotics.
Laura Hoving is technical services manager poultry EMEA at animal nutrition company, Chr Hansen. She spoke about how raw materials could ruin profitability and gave examples of how good bacteria can help producers remain profitable in the long term.
