The Slovakian ministry of agriculture and the Hugarian authorities have reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The virus was found in backyard poultry in the town of Zbehy in the western part of the country. According to the OIE report the virus infected 3 out of a flock of 22 poultry birds. The virus was contained by matter of stamping out and surveillance and movement control inside the country was implemented.
Hungarian authorities found H5N8 on a turkey farm in the Komarom-Eszetgom region. The farm in the northwest of the country had about 52.000 birds
