As the global population increases from 7 billion in 2011 to a predicted 9.3 billion by 2050, the agri-food industry must find a sustainable way to meet the resulting demand for food.
With this in mind, Alltech has announced its 2011 European Lecture Tour “Feeding the World – global demand, local response” which will address the challenges faced by the industry. Alltech’s annual European Lecture Tour will begin on the 21st of March in Dunboyne, Ireland, and will visit 30 locations across Europe before concluding in Bern Switzerland on the 8th of April 2011.
Alltech’s founder and president, Dr. Pearse Lyons said, “We must think very differently from how we have in the past. We need to adopt new technologies at a faster pace and communicate in a way which we never have before. During Alltech’s 25th European Lecture Tour, we will discuss how this dynamic environment will define how our world looks in the future and holds incredible opportunities to shape not only our world as a whole but each European country.”
During the tour strategies will be examined for improving the performance of the animal while satisfying the consumer and protecting the environment. In addition to Dr. Lyons presenting on the European Lecture Tour, speakers include Sylvie Andrieu, Marc Larousse, Dr. Colm Moran, Dr. Jules Taylor-Pickard, Patrick Charlton, Dr. Jean Kennedy and Dr. Helen Warren.
The speakers will discuss how new tools such as nutrigenomics can change the way we feed our animals and ourselves; how recent regulatory innovations can differentiate agribusiness; how the ‘farm of the future’ will look; and how agribusiness can sustain itself.
