Aus: Lupin to reduce poultry feed costs

02-07-2009 | |

With the aim of finding a replacement for expensive imported soy meal used in poultry feed, a Western Australian scientist believes he has discovered a way to significantly reduce the cost of poultry feed, reports ABC Rural.

Doctor Ahmed Ali, who has been busy with his search for the past 14 years, his research shows a cheaper protein energy alternative is Australian grown lupins, but you have to add two specific enzymes to the feed.

“We are excited because both enzymes improved the digestibility of lupins and reduce wet dropping and improve the growth performance,” he says, adding that this means that feed conversion efficiency of the feed to the meat or feed to the egg is improved.
