Bangladesh continues the struggle against bird flu

23-04-2007 | |

Despite efforts to tackle the virus, bird flu has spread to six more farms in Bangladesh.

A farm in western Magura district, Bangladesh, was the first to be hit with the highly pathogenic avian influenza on 22 March. Despite efforts made by veterinary and health officials, as well as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, through culling and banning the movement of chickens, the virus has spread.
Since the detection of the H5N1 virus on March 22, some 98,000 chickens have been culled on 38 farms in nine districts.
