Belarus poultry and egg production on the increase

Belarus’ Statistics Ministry has announced that the country has increased its agricultural production by 6.5% to 3.244 tln Belarusian roubles (€968 mln; US$1.5 bln) in January-April 2008.

According to the ministry, production by private farms and agricultural organisations increased 9.1%. However, output by the subsistence farming sector fell 5.6%.
Poultry and eggs
Total cattle and poultry slaughterings rose 6.4% year-on-year to 338,400 t live weight, while egg output increased by 0.87% to 741.1 million units.
According to forecasts, agricultural production should increase by a total of 8.5% for 2008 overall.
