Bird flu kills 2 more in Indonesia

Avian influenza has taken the lives of another 2 people in Indonesia, raising the country’s death toll to 115, said the Health Ministry.

According to a ministry statement, a 6-year-old girl in Bekasi, West Java, died on 2 January. She fell sick after having contact with a chicken at a market and being hospitalised for a week.

A 29-year-old woman died on 16 December in Tangerang just outside Jakarta. She developed flu-like symptoms after visiting a market and died in a hospital 5 days later.

Double laboratory testing confirmed they had the H5N1 strain of avian influenza.
