China: Factory supplying Mcdonald’s and KFC shut down

In the latest food safety scandal in China, it has emerged that Shanghai has shut the doors of US factory OSI, supplying McDonald’s and KFC, due to quality issues of using out of date meat.

It has been reported that workers at the OSI China plant mixed expired meat in with fresh product and purposely misled quality inspectors from McDonald’s.  The factory also supplies Burger King, Papa John’s Pizza, coffee chain Starbucks and Subway.

According to McDonald’s, it “immediately” stopped using the factory’s products while KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants had also stopped using its meat.

China is no stranger to food and product safety problems making headlines over the years, due to its loose enforcement of regulations.
