Construction of chicken farm in N. Korea beginning soon
South Korean food company Maniker Co. has announced that it will soon begin the construction of a chicken farm in North Korea. The facility will be utilise cheap labour costs in the North.
Maniker Co., the nation’s second-largest chicken processing company, has agreed with North Korean officials to establish the farm in the North’s western border city of Kaesong, where an inter-Korean industrial complex is located.
“Construction will start later this year and the farm will be operational early next year,” said a Maniker spokesman for Choi Young-sam, who added the project is partly supported by the South Korean government. Details regarding how much money Maniker and the South Korean government will spend for the chicken farm have yet to be fixed.
