The Czech Republic’s Veterinary Administration (SVSÉR) is planning an anti-salmonella vaccination campaign, in wake of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) report.
The campaign was prompted by a EFSA report stating that 62% of poultry farms in the Czech Republic were infected with salmonella making it one of the riskiest places in the European Union to eat an egg.
According to Petr Šatrán, salmonella control expert with SVSÉR, the EFSA figures refer to facilities and not the number of laying hens or eggs infected.
Šatrán added that SVSÉR is currently negotiating with the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the exact terms for the vaccination campaign.
