DSM Nutritional Products has acquired the premix unit of premix manufacturer Fatrom in Romania. The move expands the company’s global network of premix facilities and offers DSM improved access to the growing Romanian livestock feed market.

The modern premix facility was originally built in 2005 with the technical support of DSM Nutritional Products. Following commissioning, it has grown its sales significantly year on year.
Fred Kloren, Director Commercial & Premix Operations, DSM Nutritional Products, comments: “The acquisition of Fatrom’s premix unit fits perfectly with DSM’s overall strategy of driving focused growth. We see excellent potential for growth in the Romanian premix market, and will actively support this with our expertise in the field. This acquisition also maintains our long-term philosophy of being near to our customers wherever they are in the world. We hope to bring many benefits to the Romanian feed sector with our portfolio of vitamins, carotenoids, eubiotics, enzymes and other feed solutions.”

With 21.5 million people, Romania has the seventh largest population of the European Union. Agriculture has traditionally been the backbone of the country’s economy. Romania has approximately 10 million hectares of actively cultivated arable land, producing ample resources of grains which favour livestock production. Recent studies forecast a doubling of industrial feed production over the next decade to match the growth in animal farming.
The acquisition of the premix facility enables DSM to meet with these expected growing demands. Closing of the acquisition is subject to merger notification approval by the competent authorities.
