E. Coli-challenged broilers show good results with Agratism

Vyta Corp and Justin Holdings, owners of their joint venture Bioagra LLC, announced the completion of a successful study of the efficacy of Agratism, the company’s all-natural Beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan feed supplement.

Broilers infected with E. coli, the bacteria that causes the poultry disease, Infectious Process (IP), showed improved feed conversion and weight gain, and reduced mortality when fed Agratism, compared to the standard industry treatment.
This study was initiated by interest from two large broiler integrators that have experienced extensive losses from IP. The E. coli isolates used in the study were provided by one of these large integrators from actual field cases.
It is estimated that the US broiler industry loses 900 mln broilers annually to the effects of IP, or just under 1% of all birds started.
It is reported that birds fed Agratism had significantly improved weight gain and were an average of 2.37% heavier than the control birds at 28 days, the day the birds were challenged with E. coli. At the completion of the trial, day 42 (14 days after infection), the birds were similarly 2.4% heavier.
According to Dr Stephen W. Davis, who conducted the study, lesion scores for all treated birds were 24-48% lower than the non-treated challenged controls. In addition, E. coli related mortality was much lower compared to the challenged control with 8.59% compared to 24.22%.
