Enrolment scheme includes egg wholesalers

10-01-2007 | |

There are plans underway for the US Centre for Food Safety to extend the scope of the voluntary enrolment in the egg importer scheme, with aims to cover local egg wholesalers and distributors.

Information collected will be uploaded onto the Centre for Food Safety’s website to help retailers procure eggs from the traders. This will also be beneficial in tracing the source of eggs involved in food incidents.
Information from 35 poultry egg importers has been released on the website under the current voluntary enrolment scheme.
The Government will also be introducing laws to regulate imported poultry eggs. The measures will help familiarise traders with the upcoming regulations.
