The enlargement of the EU in 2004 with ten mainly Eastern European countries creates a bigger consumer market but also increases the egg production capacity of the Union. Earlier this year at the spring meeting of the International Egg Commission Prof Hans- Wilhelm Windhorst analysed the effects the enlargement will have on egg production and trade in Europe.
