The Philippine Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) director, Davinio Catbagan, said the European Union (EU) is interested in importing poultry from the Philippines after carefully inspecting quarantine procedures there.

“There’s a poultry market in Europe , but Europe is strict in sanitary rules. If we comply with their requirements, it will be a big score for us,” he said.
The Philippine poultry industry wants to make a bigger comeback in the export market for poultry after suffering a blow from Japan’s ban on poultry import from the country in July 2005 owing to local reports of the presence of low pathogenic avian influenza .
The Philippines exported about 1,500 mt of poultry products to Japan in 2004, but BAI does not have an estimate yet on this year’s poultry export after Japan lifted the ban in May this year.
