European Commission supports AI research

23-10-2006 | |

The European Commission will support 17 projects on avian influenza under the EU’s Sixth Research Framework Program.

Intervet, together with research partners, Friedrich Loeffler Institute Riems and Bommeli AG , will be executing one of the projects, receiving total funding of €1.37 million for a three year period.

The focus of the project is the development of avian influenza vaccines with the advantage of mass applicable administration through spray, drinking water or eye drop. Vaccines applied via the airways will result in animal-friendly application and more complete protection.
This project will further aim to develop specific and precise marker diagnostic tests to distinguish between vaccinated birds and birds which have been infected.
