In the first half of 2008, egg production in Germany increased by 2.7% to 4.9 bln eggs. These figures were released by the German Market Bureau ZMP.

The number of farms housing over 3,000 layers decreased in the same period to 1,207 farms (down 30%). ZMP predicts that the second half of 2008 will be marked by less growth in egg production.
