The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong has announced that the processing of applications for importing poultry and poultry products from Germany, except Saschen, would resume immediately, the China Daily reports.
The Centre suspended the processing of applications following confirmation of an outbreak of the highly pathogenic bird flu H5N1 virus on a poultry farm in Saschen in October 2008.
“In view of the control measures taken by Germany and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported, we decided to resume processing applications,” a spokesman for the Centre said.
“We are monitoring the situation in Saschen and restrictions on imports from the province will remain for the time being.”
