Oman Flour Mills and the UAE-based IFFCO Group of Companies have recently entered into an agreement to establish a joint venture company in Oman to set up a layer and breeder farm.

The aim of this company would be to cater to the poultry product needs in Oman and other GCC countries, reports the Oman Ministry of Information.

The team leaders for this project – Ali Habaj from Oman Flour Mills and Ajay Rampal from IFFCO Group – have said that there is strong potential for the project.

At present, per capita consumption in Oman is 150 eggs per year and 30 kg of chicken per year, while in the UAE it is 300 eggs per year and 40 kg chicken per year, respectively. They predict an average growth rate of 10% per year.

Reports state that there are initial plans to set up a layer farm with 1.2 mln layers with production geared to 250 mln eggs per year. The broiler farm will have a capacity of 50,000 birds per day, as well as a broiler parent farm with 0.50 mln parents to produce 50 mln hatching eggs per year.
