Local tests confirm AI caused deaths of two Indonesian

Local tests have confirmed that a young girl and a teenage boy, who died this week, were infected with bird flu.

Samples have also been sent to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for confirmation however, results from local tests are usually accurate.


The young girl’s brother died on the Tuesday, but was buried before samples could be taken.


The source of the infection is still being investigated.


The WHO has confirmed 36 human bird flu deaths in Indonesia, making Indonesia the country with the highest number of human deaths this year.


Meanwhile, Indonesian officials have started slaughtering over 1,000 poultry in the Tasikmalaya district of West Java, following the death of another teenage boy.
