Lohmann constructs Biological Production Centre

Lohmann Animal Health is continuing a major expansion project at its Winslow, Maine headquarters. THe company has begun building its biological production centre, which is expected to be completed mid 2010. This is part of a 3-year $8.8 mln expansion project.

The 12,500 sq. foot building will expand production capabilities for bacterial vaccines by at least 5 times current capacity. The new space also allows for some automation in the production process.

“The multi-million dollar expansion will provide greater production capacity to permit meeting increased demands for Lohmann vaccines,” Lohmann Animal Health CEO Dave Zacek said. “It will improve traffic control, expand offices for production management, and add meeting and training rooms.”

Next to be completed in the expansion project is a larger, more efficient animal testing facility, which is expected to be completed in the coming months. The final phase of the project will be a new R&D Centre, which will provide laboratories, scientist offices, BL 2 level isolation and more space for challenge studies.
