Wageningen University has recently reappointed Prof. dr. ir. Leo den Hartog for another five year period as professor at the Animal Nutrition Group.
An internal committee and external reviewers have evaluated the activities, performance and output of Prof den Hartog over the past five years. His professorship in “Sustainable Animal Nutrition in Production Chains” has been continued for another five years and is effective as of the first of January 2013.
From 2001 onwards, professor den Hartog was affiliated to the chair group of Animal Production Systems followed by a period at the Animal Nutrition Group. During these two periods, he made significant contributions to research and education in the field of “Farm Management in Animal Production”.
In his new role, Prof den Hartog will be involved as a lecturer in various BSc, MSc and PhD courses related to Animal Nutrition or Animal Science in general. Supervising PhD candidates is one of his main tasks as well as strategic research projects centred around sustainable production of feed and livestock in the Department of Animal Sciences of Wageningen University. Prof den Hartog is chairman of the Board of the Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS). The graduate school WIAS aims to improve our understanding of animals and their various roles for mankind through fundamental and strategic research and through MSc and PhD education and training.
Prof den Hartog is director R&D and Quality Affairs at Nutreco, an international animal nutrition and fish feed company with activities for more than 100 countries.
