Poultry packaging up 2.5% every year
The Fredonia Group, a publisher of market research, reports that US demand for packaging used for meat, poultry and seafood will exceed US$8.1billion by 2011, partially driven by the trend towards convenience foods.
US$165 billion of meat, poultry and seafood is expected to be shipped in 2011. This compares with the industry worth $112 billion 10 years ago.
The report claims that consumer trends toward healthier eating habits are expected to push packaging for poultry by 2.5% every year, to $2.9 billion in 2011.
The lower cost of poultry, combined with a predicted stream of higher-margin products designed for growing consumer demand for food packaged in convenience are expected to fuel growth.
