Poultry production up in Brazil
Chicken meat production in Brazil is expected to reach close to 11 million tonnes next year.
According to CONAB, an agricultural supply company in Brazil, the country’s chicken meat output will see an increase of about 10% to 10.8 million tonnes in 2008 compared with 2007 figures.
CONAB anticipates 2007 chicken output figures of the country to reach 9.821 million tonnes, which is up from 9.354 mln tonnes in 2006. Additionally, the country’s 2008 export figures regarding chicken are forcast at 3.4 mln tonnes.
Furthermore, the supply of chicken to Brazil’s domestic market is expected close to 7.4 million tonnes in 2008, which translates into about 38 kg of chicken meat consumption per capita for the year. This figure is up 6% year-on-year.
