Schering-Plough Acquires Distribution Rights for AVIGUARD®

Looking to expand its growing line of intestinal-health products for poultry, Schering-Plough Animal Health Corporation has acquired distribution rights in selected markets abroad for AVIGUARD®.

AVIGUARD is a natural feed and water additive that helps control costly gut diseases, including salmonellosis and necrotic enteritis.
The rights were acquired from Microbial Developments Limited (MDL), a biotechnology company in Malvern, England, and manufacturer of AVIGUARD. Only one dose of AVIGUARD, a unique freeze-dried product, is required. It is administered to birds by coarse spray in the hatchery or in the drinking water of older birds. It is categorised as a “competitive-exclusion” product because it contains natural gut flora that prevent the colonization of harmful bacteria in the intestinal tract.
“AVIGUARD gives our customers another tool for promoting better intestinal health while reducing or even eliminating in-feed antibiotics from their programmes,” says Charles Broussard, DVM, global technical services director for Schering-Plough Animal Health.
